Photo, or photography, has slowly evolved into an art form. Originally, the technology was produced to record events and information from a time period, as we still commonly do today. The exactitude and detail of photography became incredibly popular. As a result, fine art portrait painting became an art form that was sought after less and less by wealthy patrons. Artists had now been replaced by the technology of the portable camera. Many exciting branches and styles of modern artistic expression were in some way correlated to the invention of the camera and photography.

Photography, during the 20th century, underwent a similar change in purpose. After time, the novel quality of photography wore thin and artists then decided to experiment with non-traditional photographs. Today, photography is considered a valid form of fine art and is one of the most popular and growing fields in the art world.
